KENTLANDS
Gaithersburg, MD
Developed as a new community along the principles of traditional town planning, Kentlands, was planned by Andres Duany and Liz Plater-Zybeck. It is one of the most successful and cohesive of the “New Urbanism” projects. Our office was asked to design the row houses surrounding the most prominent site in the development, the town green. We strove to design a series of townhouses which have the character, scale and simplicity of older urban centers. With a small kit of parts we were able to develop a range of designs that vary in size – two to four bedroom – while maintaining an integration of design similar to our models, Old Town Alexandria or Georgetown in Washington, DC. |
